Why Anglervale exists.
Most fishing content online is recycled fluff. Anglervale is the site I wished existed when I started chasing my first bass β and then every other species β and started Googling everything I didn't know.
The short version
Anglervale is run by one angler β someone who spends every spare weekend on the water, freshwater and salt. I'm not a tournament pro and I'm not a tackle brand. I'm someone who reads the biology when a bite shuts off, blanks plenty of trips and learns from them, and got tired of fishing articles that say everything and nothing at once.
The plan: cover every species a real angler actually targets. Honest tackle, honest seasons, real technique, and a clear answer to "how do I actually catch this fish?"
How it started
My first real session was a dawn trip for largemouth bass with a rod that was wrong for the job and a box of lures I didn't understand. I got skunked while every article told me bass were "easy to catch." They weren't. The fish that finally came taught me far more than any blog did.
So I started keeping notes. Which lures earned their place. Which knots actually held. Which seasons and water conditions turned a slow day around. After a few years of notes I had enough for a real site β so here it is.
What you'll find here
- 60 fish species profiles β 40 freshwater and 20 saltwater. Identification, habitat, seasons, tackle, baits, technique, and where to find them.
- 50+ how-to guides β knots, casting, reading water, gear, electronics, and catching more fish. Updated as seasons change.
- No fluff sections β no "10 reasons fishing is great" filler. If a topic doesn't need 2000 words, it doesn't get 2000 words.
Editorial principles
- Independent. No brand pays for placement. Recommendations are based on real fishing, value, and how well gear actually works.
- Honest about difficulty. If a species is genuinely tough to target, we say so β instead of calling everything "easy."
- Affiliate-honest. Some links earn us a commission β disclosed on every page. Commission never influences a recommendation.
- Updated, not abandoned. Patterns shift through the year. We revisit and refresh guides, not just stamp a fresh date on them.
How we make money
Anglervale is reader-supported. If you click an affiliate link and end up buying, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That's it. No display ad clutter, no sponsored posts, no email-list selling. If the affiliate model ever conflicts with honesty, honesty wins.
Who's behind it
One person, for now β a longtime angler running this on the side. I keep the identity quiet because the goal is for the content to be useful, not for the brand to be about me. If you want to reach us, email hello@anglervale.com β a real person reads it.
What's next
- Every species profile gets its own photo set (~10 images per fish)
- Every how-to guide gets a hero image
- YouTube channel with species deep-dives (in production)
- Newsletter β one email a week, real stuff only
